This Pommard Village wine showcases the diverse terroir of the appellation through a blend of four distinct parcels.
Grape and Style
This is a red Pinot Noir from Pommard, a renowned village in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. The wine blends fruit from four parcels to create a complex expression of Pommard terroir.
Terroir and Viticulture
The wine comes from four vineyard sites in Pommard:La Vache: A steep plot on the central slope, planted in 1962 and 1997
Les Vaumuriens Bas: Near Volnay above Les Rugiens, with vines from 1946 and 1961
Les Vignots: On the Beaune side, with old vines planted in 1929
La Croix Planet: In the lower part of the village, planted in 1982
The vineyards range in altitude from 270-362 meters, with north and east exposures. Soils are red clay and limestone. Vines are densely planted at 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, without chemical inputs.
Winemaking
The winemaking approach emphasizes gentle extraction and minimal intervention:Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted
50-80% destemming, depending on vintage
Slow fermentation and 20-day maceration in concrete tanks using only native yeasts
Daily pump-overs for color and aroma extraction
15 months aging in oak barrels, less than 10% new oak
No fining or filtration, minimal sulfur added
This traditional approach aims to produce a Pommard that authentically expresses its terroir, with an aging potential of 5-10 years and yields of 36-40 hl/ha.
